Radix has confirmed the transfer of the domain name betting.online for $400,000, the highest price paid for any new generic top-level domain (gTLD) in the past five years.
The process, facilitated by escrow.com, was conducted directly through the registry, and according to DNJournal, this sale not only marks a significant event for new gTLDs but also secures its position as the joint fifth-highest domain sale across all TLDs in 2023.
The buyer of betting.online is no stranger to high-profile domain purchases. This same group previously procured casino.online in 2017 for over $200,000. Their investment seems to have borne fruit, as current statistics from SimilarWeb reveal that casino.online garners over 160,000 monthly visitors, with 34% coming from direct traffic.
The trend of businesses gravitating towards category-leading domains is on the rise. It is believed that such domains offer enhanced SEO, bolster brand credibility and naturally draw more online visitors.
Patrick Gerhard, CEO of casino.online, says: “The acquisition of betting.online is a significant milestone for us. We envision leveraging the domain to fortify our industry presence. Such high-value domains align perfectly with our brand’s vision and objectives.”
