Seminole Tribe of Florida to welcome sports betting

October 25th saw the US Supreme Court finally reject efforts to stop enactment of sports betting by the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

The tribe and Seminole Hard Rock plan to celebrate this generational breakthrough by launching table games and online sports betting at the six Seminole-owned casinos in south Florida between December 7th and 11th. These venues are the flagship Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, plus Seminole Classic Casino in Hollywood, Seminole Casino Coconut Creek, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa, Seminole Casino Immokalee and Seminole Brighton Casino.

Marcellus Osceola Jr, Chairman of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, said: “The Seminole Tribe thanks the State of Florida, the US Department of the Interior and the US Department of Justice for defending our compact.

“By working together, the tribe, the state and the federal government achieved a historic legal victory.”

Back in 2021, the state and the Seminoles signed an exclusive compact allowing for additional table games and online sports betting. Florida parimutuel companies challenged this exclusivity, a stay was granted, and two years of legal battles began. The final decision by the Supreme Court is great news for the Seminoles.
